“What do your parents think you do?”

We asked our people how well do their parents know what their children do for a living.

Ellie

Technical Artist

So, what do your parents think you do?

See the screenshot!

And what do you actually do?

They nailed it! Tech art is a broad discipline somewhere in between code and art, dealing with improving graphics, pipeline, tooling, implementation and smoothing out communications between the two sides.

What about doing it at Supercell makes it great/special/unique/etc to you?

Being in new games at Supercell is a great place to flex all these skills; working in a small team, it's really useful to be able to fill in the gaps between everyone else and glue a growing game together.

It's great to be surrounded by so many talented individuals in all disciplines; as a generalist role, being able to get inspiration and support from a wide range of sources is the best.

Rob

Head of Marketing

So what do your parents say?

Most annoying explanation my Mum uses: 'plays video games on his mobile phone for a living'

And what do you actually do?

Try and convince other people to play video games on their mobile phones (more specifically Supercell mobile games)

What about doing it at Supercell makes it great/special/unique/etc to you?

The ability to be able to work without fear.  That is something I've never had in my career before – it is not that you can just go around doing whatever marketing activities you want – but if you have done the work,  you can take risks.

If you fail, as long as you own the failure, share why you failed as loudly and widely as possible, then it's all good.

I've never worked at a company like that before.

James

Release & Certification Engineer

So, what do your parents think you do?

My Dad: “I really have no idea, but he seems happy enough.“

My Mum: “I know it has something to do with video games, but also managing?”

And what do you actually do?

I work with Quality Assurance outsourcing teams and some of Supercell’s investee games teams to help release their game titles.

What about doing it at Supercell makes it great/special/unique/etc to you?

Every day feels like we are stepping into unknown territory. There are new processes to figure out and new ideas to digest. That makes it fun but what make it special is that I feel like what I am doing now will have impact in later projects.

Patrick

Franchise Creative

So what do your parents say?

My parents think I am the creator of Hulk. I don’t know where that came from. Often they ask how is it going at Supercell drawing Hulks, I try to explain what I really do and they lose patience in under 10 seconds.

And what do you actually do?

I direct the creative for the Clash franchise on the entertainment side, covering TV, film, partnerships, and licensing. My role is about solving business problems with creative solutions, from concept art and strategy to story development, agency briefings, and everything odd in between.

My job is to make sure the heart and soul of Clash are present in every project we bring to life. At its core, the work is about basic human psychology, the archetypes we all share, and finding ways to express the meaning of life.

But through a Barbarian.

What about doing it at Supercell makes it great/special/unique/etc to you?

I like the variety. I get to wear many hats, shape things from the big picture down to the detail, and keep learning along the way. I love the sense of real ownership in the work, and that I get to collaborate with wonderful people.

But the biggest thing is that I get to be part of fans’ lives. I don’t know these millions of people personally and they don’t care who I am.. but there’s a real sense of meaning in knowing the work connects us, and I’m grateful for that.

Aditi

Product Manager

So, what do your parents think you do?

My mom: "You told me once, but I didn't understand. I think it's just like when you were a kid, sitting at the PC all day, jumping between games & Excel sheets. The difference is now you've found someone to pay you for it."

And what do you actually do?

Well technically, my mom is not wrong!

I am a Product Manager for one of our live games & I work on improving game performance through Live Operations!

What about doing it at Supercell makes it great/special/unique/etc to you?

I'm surrounded by very brilliant (yet very humble) people.

Egos & titles are left at the door and everyone is focused on only one thing: how can we make our games fun & successful!

Andy

Audio Designer

So what do your parents say?

He hangs out of car windows with micropho/nes. Sometimes he eats cold spaghetti and tells us he's a zombie.

And what do you actually do?

I work in the fun world of game audio creating sound effects, music and voiceover. Think crowds, vehicles, weapons, monsters, beeps and boops. Anything players experience through sound, on or off-screen!

What about doing it at Supercell makes it great/special/unique/etc to you?

I’ve only recently started at Supercell, but it’s already clear just how hugely talented and thoughtful the people here are. There’s a real sense of trust – in ideas, in people, and in the creative process. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to do your best work and have fun doing it.
